OK, I get it now, the document implicitly recognizes Israel. Spiegel: Interview with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniya, (Archive), discussion.

I have to say - I just don't get it? I found two translations; one at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Text of Palestinian National Accord adopted by President Abbas, May 2006; and one, called a 'loose translation', at The Jerusalem Post May 26, The prisoners' National Reconciliation Document.
I layed them out side by each for comparison: Hamas: National Reconciliation Document, read them both carefully ... and ... ??? The pundits are saying that this is some kind of breakthrough. Hamas' Ismail Haniya rejects the notion of a referendum altogether nevermind the document itself. A-and, I don't want to be picky but, Marwan al-Barghuthi is flashing peace signs (isn't that what it is?) but ... I don't see anything very peaceful here.
I heard about it (as usual) from the Globe: Radical plan from cellblock C.
In (sort of) related news, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) entered the fray by calling Israel's wall 'apartheid'. Nitwits! Rex Murphy, also in the Globe, had this to say: Sid Ryan's apartheid smear - I think 'smear' is used here in several senses, Right On Rex!
As usual, you can't read the Globe without an account - I will post open copies here tomorrow.
