| The Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) considers the decision of the Supreme Federal Tribunal to allow habeas corpus for Regivaldo Pereira Galvão, called 'Taradão', an "affront and a threat to the workers, leaders and defenders of the movement". 'Taradão' is the buisnessman who was jailed, accused of being one of those who ordered the death of the North American missionary Dorothy Stang.
| To the President of the CPT, Dom Xavier Gilles, the decision of the Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF) was "scandalous" considering the crime and the appearance of impunity. "There are always two standards, one for the poor and one for the rich. This man not only has the means to have killed Sister Dorothy, he also has the means to leave the country if necessary", he declared.
| In a note, the commission said that the sentence will be used to intimidate the accusing witnesses. The CPT believes that the business man may now possibly flee to escape judgement. The reporter of the process, minister Cezar Peluso, gave the benefit to the businessman in considering "preventive custody absolutely illegal".

| The defence of farmer Vitalmiro Bastos de Moura, called 'Bida', will enter a request for Preventative Habeas Corpus to the Supreme Federal Tribunal. Eduardo Imbiriba, one of the lawyers of the accused, explained that the request would be made so that the benefit given to Regivaldo Pereira Galvão, called 'Taradão', would be extended to Bida, since he is in the same procedural situation as Regivaldo, that's to say, both have the same accusation. By a decision of the STF, Regivaldo gained the right to await judgement in freedom.
| Bida and Taradão are accused of ordering the murder of missionary Dorothy Stang on the 12th of February, 2005. Rayfran das Neves Sales, called 'Fogoió' and Clodoaldo Carlos Batista, called 'Eduardo' were accused of being the killers of the missionary, and have already been judged and condemned to 27 and 17 years in prison respectively, in a closed regime.
| The lawyer Eduardo explains that the request for Habeas Corpus is based on Article 580 of the Penal Code, which allows the benefit for accused who possess a fixed residence, do not have other accusations, do not upset the public order, and have a fixed employment. The request was already made to the State Tribunal of Justice, but was turned down. Now the lawyers are entering the request at the Supreme Tribunal of Justice and if it is turned down again, it is still possible to take it to the Supreme Federal Tribunal.
| Eduardo is also the lawyer for Rayfran das Neves and Clodoaldo Batista. He said that the defence entered with a Protest for New Jury against the sentence of Rayfran is based on Article 607 of the Penal Code, which states that when a person is condemned for a crime for more than 20 years, he may ask for a new judgement with another jury. The new judgement is scheduled, probably, for the 14th of August. Rayfran was condemned in December of 2005.
| In the case of Clodoaldo, having been condemned to 17 years of prison, in the same judgement as Rayfran, it is not possible to ask for a new jury. But, a defence will be entered with recourse to be called, understanding that the judgement against the higher-ups in the action, based on Article 593, Item 3 Line d of the Penal Code. (?) |

My sister Dorothy Stang was murdered two years ago today. I ask for your support and prayers. I am still in shock that she was murdered openly, knowingly, after having a public death notice on her head. The top public government polititians and civil servants knew of this death notice and still they could not protect her. She called me the day before she was murdered and said "I am going to Esperenca to help the poor families who have been burned out of their homes and their crops burned also but I am uneasy about this trip. I found out later that the police refused to protect her even though she asked for protection. She refused to back off on helping the poor. Can you imagine point blank killing a 73 year old revered nun who gave 39 years of her life to the poor of the Amazon, living simply and asking that the poor and the Amazon be saved? While in Anapu Brazil at a Government meeting with Federal Senators accusing the mayor of Anapu having a party celebrating the murder of my sister and also helping to pay for my sister's murder, this meeting taking place only two weeks after her murder, others stood up at this meeting and said yes and the police and city council refused her protection and help. I stood there dumbfounded as one pistolero came forward and said, President Lula killed Dorothy because of his policies to try to protect the Amazon. This was said in front of five Federal Senators and Federal Police.
There have been two trials where two pistoleros were accused and indicted, and one go between rancher was accused and indicted. Now, those who paid for her murder need to stand trial. Bida's trial has now been posted and will be in April. Regivaldo also now needs to stand trial also. There are those who say he will never be tried.
