Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
One of the two prayers that Jesus revealed and the best known of the two. Do we ever hear what He is praying for or do we simply rattle it off because it so familiar to us? I understand that there is a slightly different wording in the Protestant & Catholic versions but I am not aware what the difference is. Now there are many new versions on the market today but I like the one posted on your blog site.
What was the will of Jesus expressed in the recordings of His ministry? What was he trying to teach us to pray for? In the prayer it says 'Thy kingdom come'& in many of His sermons He said over and over that there were many things that He could not tell us but that the Father would come in the future and reveal the things that we could not bear to hear then. Maybe one reason that the people couldn't bear to hear those things then was that things weren't in place to bring peace to the earth at that time. The apostles hadn't yet gone out into the world to teach the gospel. The world was a very different place. God's plan is slow and progressive maybe and we need time over the centuries to catch up. Who knows I'm not in charge. In many other places Jesus revealed that He would come again and that we would know His voice, that the name would be changed and that he would not respond to us if we did not recognize Him when He came again. Why would this prayer be the one that was left for posterity if it didn't contain a truth important for us to get.
